Automated Website Scanning & Navigation Restrictions
(By the way if you have downloaded simpliciti locked browser, there is an additional workspace shipped with the demo. Have a look in your programs/simplicitilocked browser directory for the Simpliciti lockeddown_unlimited.vw, this workspace allows you to enter an unlimited list of allowable sites.)
Web restrictions are used when you do not want your locked down or kiosk user to leave your permitted sites. An example would be if you have a link to another site from your page which you do not wish to have your locked user or kiosk access.
You can restrict this by entering your domain name in the "Web Domain 1" restriction. When you run the web restriction wizard it verifies the page you entered and automatically creates any additional domain restrictions required to ensure the proper display of your page. It also allows you to mouse over the links on your pages and provides you with a restricted mouse cursor to notify you of which links are currently blocked on your pages.
When in wizard mode you can unblock the restricted access by simply clicking the blocked link. This automatically adds the restricted entry to the allowed domain lists. When you have completed the process, click the Logoff button to return to the Settings screen.
If you wish to reset the restrictions and start again, simply clear the current list of restrictions and start the wizard again.
More restriction capabilities
Additionally browser restrictions can be limited as follows:
Contains
The restriction applies to any site URL containing the entered text. For example, if you type “exam” as the host and select Contains, the restriction applies to any URL containing “exam” such as “www.example.com”.
Equals
The restriction only applies to the site URL that matches the entered text exactly. For example, if you type “www.example.com” as the host and select Equals, the restriction applies only to the site www.example.com.
Starts With
The restriction applies to any site URL that begins with the entered text. For example, if you type “www.exam” as the host and select Starts With, the restriction applies to any URL that begins with “www.exam” such as “www.example.com”.
Ends With
The restriction applies to any site URL that ends with the entered text. For example, if you type “ca” as the host and select Ends With, the restriction applies to any URL that ends with “ca” such as “www.example.ca”.
The software builds its restriction list based on the list of allowed and denied sites entered. Simpliciti Workspaces also include scripting and events which allow for precise control over functionality and restrictions. A restriction event is included that can easily plug in to a restricted list data source.
Other web restrictions include control over downloads, right click menu, popup management, etc.
File Downloads: When set to "no" this option will work in one of two possible ways.
1. Links with extensions that can cause an application to be downloaded or may run an application are shown as blocked via the mouse hand, in the same way a restricted site is blocked. These extensions include .mov, .mp3, .avi, .rma, .dll, .exe, msi, .pdf, etc.
2. Links with extensions that can cause a download that are not in the list from number one are blocked by the displaying of a dialog that alerts the user to the fact that the link would cause a download and that they are not allowed. The dialog is then automatically dismissed after a small period of time.
